Jan Thuri studied oboe first at Prague Conservatory with his father, F. X. Thuri, and then at the Prague Academy of Musical Arts and in Utrecht. He is a laureate of the Isle of Wight International Oboe Competition and the winner of the competition in Picardie (France), he also took part in a few excellent courses with maestros J. L. Capezzali, M. Bourgue, J. Guichard and J. Likin. He co-operates with the foremost local and foreign orchestras and chamber ensembles, he funded also his own chamber ensemble “Thuri Ensemble”. Since 2005 he is a Professor of the Prague Conservatory and a leader of master courses in United States, Korea and Japan.
In the exceptionally rich repertory of Jan Thuri there are compositions of all styles and periods including contemporary and even avant-garde ones, also. He is often sought-after for the forst appearance of compositions of famous Czech and foreign contemporary composers. He has made a lot of recordings for Czech Radio, Radio France, and BBC, too; one of the most important pieces of work of Jan Thuri in the recent period of time is a collected recording of his father´s oboe and orchestra concerts. Jan Thuri is also appointed as an official oboe player for the Marigaux – Paris company.
